Astrology is just as complex as you are. It’s a whole conglomeration of signs and planets, and most importantly, the relationships between them. The ways the planets interact within your chart are called aspects — and these aspects are determined by the planets’ positions in relation to one another.
Let’s say you want to figure out the aspects in your chart. The relationships between the planets at a given time are measured by the number of degrees they are apart. So if you have two planets that sit at 180 degrees away from one another, this is called an opposition. Two planets with 120 degrees between them make up a trine, and so on.
Aspects are huge when it comes to understanding charts and transits because they reflect challenges, talents, room for growth and other opportunities in life. There are many different aspects used in modern astrology, but here are a few major ones you need to know for starters.
Since we talk a lot about the aspects for the day in your Astrovibe Horoscopes, here’s a little run down on some of the major ones!
Conjunction Aspect
Stronger together — that’s what the conjunction aspect is all about. A conjunction in astrology refers to any two planets that are no more than 5-7 degrees apart. This means their energies are combined, and often amplified. If a conjunction is in your chart, you may have a hard time separating these parts of your personality. Depending on the circumstances or other placements in the chart, a conjunction can be either an asset or a challenge.
Opposition Aspect
Imagine two people standing directly across from one another, most likely preparing for battle or staring each other down while causing a lot of tension and discomfort in the room. There, you have an opposition. An opposition is when two planets sit opposite one another, making a 180 degree line. This usually indicates a conflict or challenge — although it’s not necessarily a bad thing. Many astrologers today see the opposition aspect as an opportunity to learn and overcome internal or external obstacles.
Trine Aspect
What are the things in life that come easiest to you? You probably call them your talents. In astrology, they usually indicate a trine somewhere in the chart. A trine can be any two planets that are about 120 degrees away from one another, and it’s usually considered a place of harmony and ease. For example, if your Mercury — the planet of communication — and your Neptune — the planet of dreams and imagination — form a trine, you may have a natural tendency for incredible creativity!
Square Aspect
You might hate me for this, but — the right angle doesn’t always feel so “right” when it forms a square in your chart, if you catch my drift. If you have a square, it means two of your planets form a 90 degree angle. This typically indicates a source of stress and tension in your life. But on the bright side, it also presents the opportunity for you to learn some valuable lessons.
There are plenty of other aspects, both major and minor ones, that may appear in a chart or transit. But these are some of the most powerful ones, which can show you where your greatest strengths are and where you have the most room for growth. Aspects are just one part of the big picture of astrology — but combined with the elements, planets, signs and houses, they can provide epic insights into your life and the world around you!
